Meurs Receives Distinguished Professorship in Comparative Medicine

Kate Meurs, who first came to the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine as a small animal intern and now serves as the senior associate dean for research and graduate studies, has been named the Randall B. Terry Jr. Distinguished Professor in Comparative Medicine. Her ongoing, groundbreaking research broadens understanding of genetic disease in companion animals, information that often has potential to guide treatment of human disease.

A scholarship enabled Ryan Barnes to graduate from the College of Natural Resources in 2016 with degrees in paper science and engineering and chemical engineering. He’s now using the skills he gained at NC State as a process engineer for Cree Inc., a North Carolina-based manufacturer of semiconductor products for power and radio-frequency applications and lighting-class LEDs.

Park Scholarships Names Class of 2025 Finalists

The Park Scholarships Selection Committee, comprising more than 300 NC State alumni and friends, conducted interviews with 495 semifinalists in early January. The semifinalists were selected from 2,203 applicants. Of that group, 112 candidates have been selected as finalists for the Class of 2025.

Helping Consumers Change the World When They Shop

A team of researchers including Rob Handfield, the Bank of America University Distinguished Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management in the Poole College of Management, is launching an initiative aimed at improving working conditions in clothing factories on a global scale. The researchers hope to help workers by developing and marketing a tool that lets apparel shoppers know how items of clothing were made.
