Katya Casper ’07 Grounds Her Interest in Flight at Sandia National Labs

Katya Casper says NC State's Park Scholarships program had a tremendous impact on her time as a student and on her career. While she knew she wanted to pursue engineering, Casper explains that the Park Scholarships program allowed her to grow as an individual and become more aware of the broader community.

Keep Calm and Terrier On

NC State Veterinary Hospital and support from the Petco Foundation and Blue Buffalo Cancer Treatment Fund have helped Kristi Thompson's terrier mix Nala return to her old self. The experience also inspired Thompson to pursue a new career in canine massage therapy.

Meet College of Education Alumna Bria Cofield Wright ’16, ’19MED

Teacher Bria Cofield Wright wanted to deepen her ability to support her fifth-graders at Hortons Creek Elementary School. Being awarded the Ragland Foundation Teaching and Leading Literacy Scholarship and the Moshakos Family Teacher Education Graduate Fellowship from the NC State College of Education made that possible -- and inspired her to become a donor as well.

Jane Rogers: Supporting Students’ Leadership Potential

Jane Rogers has been named the College of Humanities and Social Sciences 2019 Distinguished Alumna and was recognized at the annual NC State Alumni Association Evening of Stars Gala. She has more than 40 years of experience developing and leading nonprofit, educational, governmental and for-profit organizations. Rogers, a member of the Chancellor’s Circle and the R. Stanhope Pullen Society, also has established a planned gift to support students’ access to international study abroad opportunities and to provide leadership opportunities to students engaged with our state’s social innovation nonprofit sector.

Jon Carr Discusses the Success of NC State Entrepreneurship

Jon Carr, Jenkins Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship, was featured on WRAL during the On the Record segment to discuss the growth and success of entrepreneurship at NC State. NC State entrepreneurship start-ups have generated $1.2 billion in added income to the state economy and, currently, there are 31 start-up companies housed in the new NC State Entrepreneurship Garage.

Inspiring Tomorrow’s Leaders in Statistics

As part of efforts to inspire students and develop the next generation of women leaders in statistics, department head Len Stefanski has been using funds from his R.A. Fisher Distinguished Professorship endowment to send a group of women students to the annual Women in Statistics and Data Science (WSDS) conference for each of the past four years. This year, Eric Laber also funded a student’s attendance through his Goodnight Distinguished Professorship.

Jeff Reese: A Life of Devotion, a Legacy of Impact

Jeff Reese, an esteemed alumnus and devoted volunteer of the College of Natural Resources, died Oct. 30. To honor his life, legacy and impact, friends, family and colleagues have joined together to establish the Jeff Reese IMPACT Award at NC State. The award will provide scholarships to undergraduates in paper science and engineering, with preference to students who participate in any instrumental ensemble at NC State, are in the university chapter of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry or serve as paper science and engineering ambassadors or mentors.

Supporting Global Growth

Alumnus and donor Ralph Edwards has a passion for the impact of study abroad. As an undergraduate in industrial engineering in 1959, he had the chance to intern in Italy. Now, he and his wife give back by supporting the Ralph and Ree Edwards Study Abroad Scholarship within the College of Engineering.

The Gift of Feeling Normal

After experiencing the anxiety and stress of bringing a beloved pet to a new environment during a medical emergency, Sandy Kirk decided to donate a bench to the NC State Veterinary Hospital's outdoor area. She hopes to give those in similar situations a place to sit peacefully while their pets are entrusted to the hospital's expert, compassionate care.
