Ekkad Named R.J. Reynolds Professor

Dr. Srinath Ekkad has been named the R.J. Reynolds Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at NC State. Named head of the department last year, Ekkad has published more than 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to four book chapters and wrote the book, “Gas Turbine Heat Transfer and Cooling Technology.”

In a study abroad trip supported by the Ron and Dale Terry Student Assistance and Enrichment Fund, NC State environmental sciences major Sarah Dance traveled to China, where she researched plant identification and challenged herself in new ways.

Fisheries, wildlife and conservation biology major Rebecca Sears undertook a research-oriented study abroad trip to Namibia, supported by the Ron and Dale Terry Student Assistance and Enrichment Fund. The trip enabled her to develop and practice field skills and sampling techniques.

From Seattle with Love

Beck Hallmann is a committed donor to NC State's College of Veterinary Medicine, even though she has never been to campus nor has her beloved cat been treated there. Hallmann is dedicated to supporting and advocating for the work of faculty members such as Kate Meurs, CVM associate dean for research and graduate studies, and their work related to a feline heart problem.

Graduation to Vocation: Solar Installation Technician

As someone who wanted a major with high job placement rates and the ability to work outside, Jack Marley found a home at the College of Natural Resources. Support from the Valspar Scholarship and the BioResources Scholarship helped him stay engaged and involved. Now he's graduating with a B.S. in sustainable materials and technology and a certificate in renewable energy assessment and preparing to start work.

Nimet Browne joined the College of Veterinary Medicine's faculty last summer as clinical assistant professor of equine internal medicine and leads the equine neonatology service. Raising funds to expand its excellent and innovative equine care, education and research program is among the college's Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign goals.
