Measuring the Role of Social Networks in Entrepreneurship

Working closely with NC State's Entrepreneurship Clinic and with private funding support, a team of researchers in the Poole College of Management has begun a two-year project aimed at developing and validating new metrics focused on social network embeddedness and on social network engagement.

Quiz: Voices of North Carolina

Walt Wolfram, William C. Friday Distinguished University Professor at NC State and director of the Language and Life Project, has been cataloging and studying language in North Carolina for years, pioneering research on social and ethnic dialects. Now, he has created a dialects quiz that tells a story of North Carolina's unique language tradition and conveys a sense of how dialects help transmit the history and culture of the state.

Grateful Clients Award Anesthesia Team Coat of Excellence

When Winston, an 11-year-old Airedale, went into cardiac arrest during a CT scan, Lysa Posner, professor of anesthesiology at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine, took charge. Winston's owners, Crystal and David Steffan, have recognized Posner's extraordinary efforts with a Coat of Excellence gift -- and the 22 members of the anesthesiology team have matching blue shirts with the inscription, "Winston’s Team Anesthesia."

Kim Receives 2018 RJ Reynolds Award

Youngsoo “Richard” Kim, Jimmy D. Clark Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE), is the 34th recipient of the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Extension. Kim gave his award lecture, titled “From Theory to Engineering Practice: A 30-Year Journey,” at the Larry K. Monteith Engineering Research Center on Centennial Campus on Nov. 12.

Interning at the United Nations

Caldwell Fellow Amith Mandavilli took the idea of experiential education to the next level as part of his semesterlong internship at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. One of 15 interns in the prestigious program, Mandavilli got a closeup view of foreign policy and international relations at the highest level.
