Deanna Metivier, a 2016 College of Natural Resources ecosystem assessment alumna, is an assistant environmental scientist at Burns and McDonnell, a full-service engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting firm. Scholarships like the Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarship, Phillip B. Jackson Memorial Scholarship, Edwin F. Conger Academic Scholarship and Joseph J. Jarvis Endowed Scholarship supported her journey from student to professional.

Chosen twice as an Astronaut Scholar, Maloney is pursuing her passion for space exploration and hopes to follow in the footsteps of a fellow female NC State engineer with her eyes on the stars.

When 4-H'er Victoria Robbey started Outer Banks Kettle Corn in 2008, the 9-year-old could barely reach the cash register. Now, at 19, Victoria juggles the demands of college and running a business. She plans to attend NC State to gain skills that will help her expand a part-time job into a career.

Alumna Amber Smith, executive director of Raleigh nonprofit Activate Good, has been matching volunteers and organizations for years. Nonprofit management and work with the Institute for Nonprofits intertwined with her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and her MPA. Now, Smith has launched a sign campaign to deliver a powerful message about the power of positivity and giving back.
