Alumna continues her support of the College

When Rashida Hodge established a scholarship in the College of Engineering, she didn’t name it after herself. Her recent pledge to help fund construction of the newest engineering building on NC State’s Centennial Campus includes naming rights for a foyer in Engineering Building Oval. She won’t put her name on that, either.

Two Faculty Named Goodnight Innovation Distinguished Professors

The College of Sciences recently awarded distinguished professorships to two of its outstanding scientists: Ruoying He of the Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and Fred Wright of the Departments of Statistics and Biological Sciences. Their Goodnight Innovation Distinguished Professorships were made possible by a gift from longtime NC State supporters Jim and Ann Goodnight.

CVM’s Johnston Wins NC State, Governor’s Awards for Excellence

Dane Johnston, director of continuing education, outreach and alumni affairs at the College of Veterinary Medicine, is one of only three NC State employees this year to receive both the University Award for Excellence and the Governor’s Award for Excellence, the highest honor for a state employee. Johnston's accomplishments included creating an innovative campaign that has raised $25,000 for the college's student enhancement fund.

Gabr Named Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering and Construction

Dr. Mohammed Gabr, who joined the NC State faculty in 1998, is named to the professorship in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering made possible by gifts from many groups and individuals within the construction industry and College of Engineering alumni community. His recent research interests include innovative soil improvement techniques and offshore foundation systems supporting renewable energy devices.

Celebrating Five Years of the College of Sciences

On July 1, 2013, NC State launched its new College of Sciences, bringing together people and programs in the physical, chemical, mathematical, statistical, biological and earth-system sciences. The structure enhanced collaborative opportunities for students and faculty, a convergence vital to addressing many of the world’s greatest problems. Endowment growth of 120 percent is just one of the five-year highlights.
