Student Giving Day 2017

On March 29, Student Government paired with NC State’s Division of Academic and Student Affairs and Office of Annual Giving to host Student Giving Day. The event was part of an initiative to shift the culture of student philanthropy at NC State and was celebrated across campus — its central location being on Stafford Commons outside of Talley Student Union.

First-Ever Goodnight Transfer Finalists Named

The Goodnight Scholars Program has announced 19 finalists for its inaugural transfer class of 2019. The students, currently attending community colleges across North Carolina, will participate in finalist interviews this week and 10 will be named Goodnight Scholars.

Researchers Release First Chemical Map of Dyes From Historic Dye Library

NC State faculty have released the first chemical “map” of dyes from the Max A. Weaver Dye Library, which contains almost 100,000 samples of unique dyes and fabrics and was donated to the university by Eastman Chemical Co. in 2014. The information could assist researchers in developing dyes with desirable properties.

Frank and Betsy Skidmore, of Durham, made gifts to the College of Veterinary Medicine's Walk of Honor and to the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Health Research Fund in honor of their late dog, Charlie, and Dr. Keri Reeves and his other outstanding caregivers at CVM

Chemistry Professor Sniffs Out Excellence

Maria T. Oliver-Hoyo, Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor of Chemistry at NC State, is so fascinated by the teaching of chemistry that she has become a leading light in the study of chemistry education — and she’s so good at it that she was recently named a winner of the 2017 Excellence in Teaching Award from the UNC system Board of Governors.

March Madness Giving Back

This year marks the completion of the fifth annual Park Scholarships March Madness: a two-pronged, friendly competition between current scholars to see which class will have the highest percentage of donor participants and contribute the highest dollar amount. Led by the new Park Philanthropy Council, a group of scholars dedicated to instilling a desire to give back and sustain the Park program for generations to come, this year's March Madness resulted in more than $11,000 in gifts.

Park Scholars Host Inaugural Gerald H. Elkan Distinguished Lecture

NC State’s Park Scholarships Class of 2019 hosted the program’s inaugural Gerald H. Elkan Distinguished Lecture in Science and Society, featuring MacArthur Fellow and water quality engineer Dr. Marc Edwards, Charles Lunsford Professor of Civil Engineering at Virginia Tech. The Gerald H. Elkan Distinguished Lecture on Science and Society was established by its namesake’s former students, associates and friends in honor of Elkan’s 40-year career as a microbiology professor in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and it supports an annual talk by a prominent thought leader.
