Student Giving Day: A Time to Celebrate and Educate

On Wednesday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. students can expect to see Jenga sets, a Facebook Live feed, trivia, and a pie-throwing station at Stafford Commons and Wolf Plaza as well as a giant thank-you trifold in front of SAS Hall — all for Student Giving Day.

This day is meant to engage students in giving back to the university while also educating them about where their tuition dollars go and why their choice to give back makes a difference. Made possible by the partnership between the Office of Annual Giving and Student Government, Student Giving Day aims to establish a dialogue on campus about how philanthropy affects all 34,000 students at NC State — whether they realize it or not. Student Government is hoping participation in these events throughout campus will bring students together and ignite conversations about how their involvement, not just their donations, can help make a huge impact on NC State.

The various locations of activities on campus ensure students have the chance to participate in Student Giving Day no matter where they are throughout the day. Any student who chooses to donate more than $20.17 will be able to tie-dye a Student Giving Day T-shirt to show their Wolfpack pride and support of student philanthropy. Students also have the opportunity to show their appreciation for philanthropy on campus by writing thank-you notes on the trifold in front of SAS Hall.

Student Government is hoping to emphasize the importance of a collective student participation in initiating change and progress through student philanthropy.

“There’s a sense of urgency that’s spurred within all of us when we know that there’s only a day to give back and there’s only a day to be recognized and appreciated for your gift,” said Sam Shain, director of student philanthropy for Student Government. “What matters is that students are participating and showing alumni that they have the ability to give back to NC State and truly care and are excited.”
