Meet Wilson College of Textiles Young Alumna Brielle Papalia ’15

Brielle Papalia, a young alumna of the Wilson College of Textiles from Kernersville, is part of her family’s fourth generation to enter the textile industry. Now an assistant product development manager at Gap Inc. in New York, she stays connected as a Wilson College of Textiles regional representative for the Northeast, mentoring, growing the alumni network, promoting the alumni foundation and keeping alumni up to date on current events at the college.

Board Member Brings Luxury, International and Human Resources Experience

As the newest member of NC State's Global Luxury and Management (GLAM) Industry Advisory Board, Pascale Meyran brings decades of international experience as a human resources professional linked to luxury brands including Michael Kors, Jimmy Choo and Versace. She hopes to work with students to help them understand and navigate cultural differences in the workplace as well as how to work with HR departments.

Dunning Honored for Forward-Thinking CVM Leadership

As associate dean for advancement, which includes both the fundraising and communications teams at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Dianne Dunning brings a wealth of knowledge about science, public health and the human-animal bond to her duties. Recently, Susan and Randy Ward honored Dunning with a Coat of Excellence in recognition of "the value she brings to us, to the state and to the health of animals.”

Trustees Elect New Officers, Welcome New Member

Perry Safran of Raleigh, a former president of the Alumni Association, has joined NC State's Board of Trustees. Safran is a founding partner of the Safran Law Offices and a former Raleigh City Council member. He is a longtime supporter of the university, and is a member of the Peele Lifetime Giving Society and the Pullen Giving Society. He is a 2019 recipient of the Alumni Association’s Meritorious Service Award. The board recently elected Thomas E. Cabaniss as chair, Stanhope A. Kelly as first vice chair, Edward I. Weisiger Jr. as second vice chair and Ann B. Goodnight as secretary.

Marks of Excellence: NC State Veterinary Hospital Leader Receives Special Honor

After taking note of Dr. Steven Marks’ singular performance under unprecedented circumstances at the NC State Veterinary Hospital, past president of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Foundation and current board member Susan Ward and her husband Randy were moved to express their appreciation. They awarded Marks a Coat of Excellence, which honors impactful faculty clinicians, interns, residents or support staff members.

The Doctor is In

For Dr. Linda Butler, there are no normal days. As vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer at UNC REX Healthcare in Raleigh, Butler — a College of Engineering alumna and board member for the NC State Engineering Foundation — is responsible for quality and performance improvement, infection prevention, risk management, research and medical staff affairs for a system with more than 7,400 staff members and multiple facilities including Raleigh’s oldest hospital.

College of Engineering Remembers Tony Mitchell

Tony L. Mitchell, retired associate professor of electrical and computer engineering (ECE), assistant dean emeritus of the College of Engineering and an inaugural ECE Hall of Fame inductee in 2015, passed away April 1. Mitchell also was an alumnus, having earned a Ph.D. in ECE in 1987 on a US Air Force graduate fellowship. He was the first African American full-time student to earn that degree from NC State. Mitchell served on the Shelton Leadership Center Board of Advisors and was a member of the Chancellor's Circle giving society for several years.
