First Crop: Park Scholar Says New CALS Major Offers Hands-on Learning

Sophomore Park Scholar Grace Baucom felt like a major had been "designed for her" when she learned about the new agroecology and sustainable food systems program in NC State's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The program, which begins this school year, integrates ecology with agriculture for the development of sustainable agricultural practices and food systems.

Its annual Best Colleges for Your Money list ranks schools based on a combination of educational quality, affordability and alumni success. This year, analysts weighed more than two dozen data points to grade 727 public and private institutions in the United States.

Shelton Leadership Center Announces Program Participants

The Shelton Leadership Center has selected the new cohort for the Chancellor’s Leadership Development Program. The two-year program aims to help students from across the university maximize their leadership skills through experiential learning and self-discovery, and it particularly targets first-generation college students, students from rural counties and students underrepresented within their field of study.

A Lifetime of Music, a Legacy at NC State

After Miriam Bailey Gardner was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s, her husband Bill assembled a scrapbook of her life, and in the process, he learned that her love of music was ignited while a student at NC State. They have chosen to establish the Miriam Bailey Gardner Music Scholarship Endowment to provide merit-based scholarships to music students at the university.

CNR Student Spotlight: Matthew Adkins

University Honors Scholar Matthew Adkins spent his final semester in the College of Natural Resources filming a documentary for his capstone project. Supported by the CNR Student Assistance and Enrichment Fund, Adkins researched, shot, edited and produced a full-length documentary about the impact of permaculture in central North Carolina.

Two Park Scholars Receive the Astronaut Scholarship

Two NC State Park Scholars in the Class of 2019, Ziad Ali and Madison Maloney, are recipients of a 2018-19 Astronaut Scholarship. Awarded to 50 scholars from 36 universities across the nation, the scholarship was established to aid the United States in retaining world leadership in technology and innovation by supporting the best and brightest scholars in science, technology, engineering and mathematics while commemorating the legacy of America’s pioneering astronauts.
