Brown Family Makes Transformational Gift

Computer Science alumnus and Hall of Fame inductee Tony McLean Brown and the Brown family recently made a $1 million pledge to the department to create a named distinguished professorship, a named graduate fellowship and a named undergraduate scholarship. The commitment was announced as part of NC State’s fifth annual Day of Giving, helping the Department of Computer Science set an all-time single-day giving record with total gifts and pledges exceeding $3.8 million.

The Libraries Announces Whitney Barlow Robles as the Tom Regan Visiting Research Fellow for 2023

The Libraries has awarded the 2023 Tom Regan Visiting Research Fellowship to Whitney Barlow Robles, a lecturer in the Department of History at Dartmouth College. Robles will visit the Libraries for her month-long fellowship in the late summer of 2023. Intended to promote scholarly research in animal rights, the fellowship has been established through the generosity of the Culture and Animals Foundation in memory of scholar, author and former NC State philosophy faculty member Tom Regan.

Six NC State Alumni Accept Miller Fellowships to Focus on their Startups

NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship recently announced the newest cohort of Miller Fellows — young entrepreneurs that have launched startups as students. The fellowship program supports newly graduated entrepreneurs who wish to pursue their venture full time after graduation with resources and a monthly stipend.

Better Than He Found It

After 17 years, Louis Martin-Vega will be stepping down as the dean of the College of Engineering at the end of the summer. He leaves behind him a strong legacy of philanthropy, having successfully guided the college through the university’s recent Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign while also overseeing a period of significant growth in student enrollment, faculty size, national reputation, research productivity and diversity among its faculty and student body.

5 Questions With Goodnight Doctoral Fellow Morgan Arteman

Morgan Arteman is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources and one of two students in the College of Natural Resources to be named to the inaugural class of Goodnight Doctoral Fellowship recipients. Launched in December 2022 thanks to the generosity of Dr. Jim and Mrs. Ann Goodnight, the Goodnight Doctoral Fellowship provides an annual stipend of up to $40,000 to each recipient in support of their education and research.
