NC State Education Names 2019 ECMC Foundation Fellows for Postsecondary Career and Technical Education Research

Sixteen research fellows from institutions across the nation have been selected to participate in the Career and Technical Education Research Program at NC State, which is sponsored by ECMC Foundation. Known as ECMC Foundation Fellows, the selected researchers will participate in training institutes, webinars on research methods and a convening focusing on postsecondary CTE.

Amoah Receives First Place at Workshop

Materials science and engineering graduate student Stephen Amoah, who spoke at NC State's Red and White Night celebration in 2017, was honored as ORaCEL (Organic and Carbon Electronics Labs) held the Future of Materials Workshop at Talley Student Union. The aim was to “address the grand challenges facing the next generation of functional materials by fostering collaborative activities that harness a wide-range of research tools and intellectual resources within the Research Triangle area.” Amoah works in the lab of Franky So, Walter and Ida Freeman Distinguished Professor.

Statistics Graduate Student Earns SAS Fellowship

First-year Ph.D. student Kasia Dobrzycka will receive the SAS Computational Statistics Fellowship by the Department of Statistics. The three-year fellowship, worth $40,000 per year, is awarded to students interested in augmenting their graduate education with computer science courses and software development experience.

The Jenkins Master of Accounting program, established with the leadership and support of Benjamin Jenkins III, is marking its 25th anniversary. The generosity of alumni and friends of the program is key to ensuring that the majority of students receive some form of merit-based financial aid, including MAC fellowships, scholarships and graduate assistantships.

Teams in the 2018 Andrews Launch Accelerator program and the Dr. Thomas Kenan Miller III Fellows Program recently participated in the Andrews Launch Accelator pitch night. Entrepreneurship in Action: Miller Fellows to Exhibit at Entrepalooza

The 2018 Miller Fellows class will be among exhibitors at NC State's Entrepalooza event Sept. 13. Ventures include a new way to speed up the aging process of alcohol, a travel solution to prevent soap spills, a spatial intelligence platform, a cryptocurrency trading operation, a solution to optimize food distribution and an app that makes workouts more engaging.

Social Innovator Leigh-Kathryn Bonner

There is plenty of buzz about Miller Fellow Leigh-Kathryn Bonner. The 2015 NC State graduate started Bee Downtown as a student and has since installed beehives at more than 50 companies as a way to save honey bee populations. In a College of Humanities and Social Sciences "How I Think and Do" video, Bonner talks about how her international studies degree informed her business plans and about the boost she got from across campus as she created and grew her “bees-ness.”

Two Textiles Ph.D. Students Receive VF Assistantships

Zahra Saki, a Ph.D. student in NC State's textile technology management program, and Inhwan Kim, a Ph.D. student in the fiber and polymer science program, have been named recipients of the VF Graduate Assistantship in Apparel and Footwear. These assistantships are part of a strategic partnership between the College of Textiles and VF Corporation that, among other goals, seeks to enhance student development opportunities.
