NC State to Lead $10M Initiative to Decarbonize Forest Products Industry

A group of researchers from the NC State Department of Forest Biomaterials has been selected to lead a $10 million, public-private research initiative aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the forest products industry. Lokendra Pal, the EJ Woody Rice Professor and a University Faculty Scholar in the Department of Forest Biomaterials at NC State, will lead the effort.

Charles Allen Sanders ’85 Named Executive Director of Pulp and Paper Advisory Board

Sanders, an alumnus of the College of Natural Resources’ paper science and engineering program, brings more than 30 years in the paper industry to the board. In his new role, he will serve as an interface between the advisory board and corporate and individual contributors, manage day-to-day activities of the board, work to establish goals and objectives to grow the endowment and assist in alumni communications.

Scholarship Support Allows Tylene Powell to Pursue Her Passion for Sport Management

For NC State junior Tylene Powell, the support that she’s received from scholarships has been vital to her academic success. Powell, who is majoring in sport management at the College of Natural Resources, received the Natural Resources Foundation Scholarship during her freshman year and then the Jack “Swede” Frauson Sports Management Scholarship and the Wayne Williamson and Bette Rose Scholarship Endowment in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management.

5 Questions With Goodnight Doctoral Fellow Morgan Arteman

Morgan Arteman is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources and one of two students in the College of Natural Resources to be named to the inaugural class of Goodnight Doctoral Fellowship recipients. Launched in December 2022 thanks to the generosity of Dr. Jim and Mrs. Ann Goodnight, the Goodnight Doctoral Fellowship provides an annual stipend of up to $40,000 to each recipient in support of their education and research.

Libraries Scholarship Fund Supports Brianna Bui’s Passion for Engineering

Brianna Bui, a junior majoring in paper science and engineering and chemical engineering at the College of Natural Resources, was recently named one of 10 students to receive a scholarship through the Libraries Student Scholarship Fund. The fund provides annual scholarships to outstanding student workers of the NC State University Libraries.

Suzano Scholarship Supports Paper Science Students

When Suzano Pulp and Paper looks at trees, it sees the future. When it looks at students of the paper science and engineering program at NC State’s College of Natural Resources, it sees future leaders of a sustainable, renewable industry. That’s why the company has endowed a $50,000 scholarship for paper science and engineering students who are first-generation college students, from an underserved population or who demonstrate a financial need.

Jason Bocarro Honored With 2023 UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching

Jason Bocarro, the Owens-Shelton Distinguished Professor for Leadership with a Global Perspective, has been named as the recipient of the 2023 UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching. The honor is the university system’s most prestigious teaching award, recognizing and encouraging faculty’s extraordinary teaching contributions.

Ron (’60) and Rhett (’94) Bost have invested in the future of NC State’s Slocum Camp by naming Cabin #8 the “Bost Cabin.” They hope other Wolfpack alumni will join them in preserving this legacy for future generations of aspiring natural resource leaders by making a gift to the Slocum Camp Hill Forest Enhancement Campaign.
