An Extraordinary Gift for an Extraordinary Place

Two NC State industrial engineering alumni are supporting the College of Engineering’s newest facility with the largest gift given for a campus building in the university's history. The college announced the $25 million gift from Edward P. Fitts Jr. and Edgar S. Woolard Jr. on April 20 at the official groundbreaking for what will be named Fitts-Woolard Hall. The $154-million project on Centennial Campus is also funded by the passage of the May 2016 Connect NC bond referendum as well as other private donors.

Breaking New Ground on Centennial Campus

In late February, contractors began site work for Engineering Building Oval, the College of Engineering’s newest academic and research building, scheduled to open in June 2020. The future home of the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering, the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the dean’s administration is the next step in the unification of the college on Centennial Campus. The facility also represents a first-of-its-kind infrastructure project for NC State, using a unique public-private partnership.
