College of Education Receives $10.8 Million Grant from Belk Endowment to Enhance Its Support of Community Colleges

A generous grant from the John M. Belk Endowment -- the largest ever made to the NC State College of Education -- will expand the college’s efforts to create a pipeline of highly qualified community college leaders who improve postsecondary student outcomes.

Education Student Ashley Lawson Named Truman Scholar

Ashley Lawson, a Park Scholar and senior majoring mathematics education and mathematics, has been named as one of 59 recipients of the prestigious Truman Scholarship, which invests in the potential of individuals committed to public service leadership. She is NC State's 10th Truman Scholar.

Honoring 90 Years of NC State’s College of Education

Members of the NC State College of Education Board have issued the $90,000 Challenge. The board will give up to $90,000 to support students and programs across the college if alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends join them in meeting several goals that celebrate the college’s 90th anniversary and reflect its impact.

Envisioning Excellence

The College of Education launched the Envisioning Excellence for Community College Leadership Program, with funding from the John M. Belk Endowment, in 2015. The college's Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) for community college executives has been transformed, and the program is leading NC State’s efforts to expand professional development opportunities and create a statewide resource network for community college leaders.

College of Education Student Recognized by Statewide Group

Ashley Lawson has won the 2017 North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM) Outstanding Mathematics Education Student Award. A Park Scholar, Lawson planned to major in mechanical engineering because of her talents in math and science. When she realized she had a passion for helping others, she changed course to a double major in mathematics and mathematics education.
