CALS Alumna: Be Fearless

Amanda Guthrie, a 2001 NC State graduate who was a Thomas Jefferson Scholar and recipient of the Dean Durward and Shirley Bateman Scholarship, oversees the care of 10,000 invertebrate and 10,000 vertebrate animals as senior veterinary officer at the ZSL London Zoo.

Honoring a Legacy

As the longtime director of NC State University’s Caldwell Fellows program, Gerald Hawkins seemed to take all of his students under his wing. Now, many Caldwell alumni are joining forces to bolster the program and honor the legacy of Hawkins — who retired more than a decade ago — by raising funds for his namesake endowment.

Alum Receives Prestigious Gates Cambridge Scholarship

Adriano Bellotti, a 2015 summa cum laude graduate of NC State with a degree in biomedical engineering and a minor in biological sciences, will use his award to pursue doctoral studies in engineering at the University of Cambridge before returning to medical school. As an undergraduate at NC State, Bellotti was a two-time recipient of both the departmental Abrams Scholar award and the Katherine Stinson Scholarship for excellence in engineering, as well as a recipient of the Thermo Scientific Antibody Scholarship and an Honors Village Fellow.
