New Karla A. Henderson Distinguished Professor Named

The College of Natural Resources is pleased to announce that Corey Johnson has been selected as the new Karla A. Henderson Distinguished Professor, the first funded distinguished professorship in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management.

Setting the Table

The NC State Crafts Center is home to exquisite pottery, fine jewelry and beautiful stained-glass creations. It’s also the home of a brand-new, hand-crafted wooden table that will greet students as they enter the center this fall, thanks to a 2019 gift from the Sir Walter Cabinet.

Greg Cope Named American Fisheries Society Fellow

William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor Greg Cope has been named a Fellow of the American Fisheries Society (AFS), a worldwide professional society with more than 8,000 members and five peer-reviewed journals. Cope will be recognized as a Fellow later this year at the AFS Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland.

Accessible Design Takes Spotlight in Competition

Rick Rice, who graduated from the College of Design with a bachelor’s in architecture, created a scholarship award at the College of Design to set an educational foundation for egalitarian architecture. As part of the accessible design competition, 14 students were tasked with designing a new building on Centennial Campus that would serve the Poole College of Management and the Graduate School.

The Park Scholarships program is pleased to welcome Danyal Mahmud to the community as its new graduate assistant. Mahmud is also a student in NC State’s master of education in higher education administration program.

College of Sciences Dean Chris McGahan to Retire

College of Sciences Dean Chris McGahan will retire effective January 1, 2023, after dedicating 40 years of service to NC State. McGahan was named dean of the college in November 2017 and has played an instrumental role in advancing the college’s teaching, research and innovation efforts since then, including helping the college raise $71 million during the recently completed Think and Do the Extraordinary campaign — $11 million above the campaign goal.

Park Scholarships Announce Application Changes for 2022-23 Recruitment Cycle

The Park Scholarships program is excited to announce changes to its application process beginning this fall. These changes will expand access in line with the program’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals, as well as streamline the selection process.

Astronaut Scholar and MAE Alumnus Honored for His Aviation Career

U.S. Marine Corps veteran, astronaut and former John Estes Conway Memorial Scholarship recipient Trent Kingery ’98 was recently recognized for his extraordinary career by the Neil Armstrong Award of Excellence. The Neil Armstrong Award of Excellence is awarded annually to an Astronaut Scholar alumnus or alumna and serves as a prestigious recognition for those who continually push the boundaries in their fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
